(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-2000-073
INSPECTION DATE 6/30/04
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ESC
This was an inspection of the Shults Gravel Pit conducted by Erica Crosby and Carl Mount
of the Division of Minerals and Geology. Scott Nielsen of Rio Blanco County was present
during the inspection.
The site is located 10 miles west of Meeker in Rio Blanco County, Colorado. An 110c
permit was issued on June 23, 2000. The gravel extracted from the site is used to serve
the needs of Rio Blanco County Road and Bridge in road repair and surfacing. Amine
identification sign was posted at the entrance to the site, and permit boundary markers
were identified.
A small area has been recently mined on the west end of the site to a depth of 10-15 feet.
Mining is not yet complete in this area, but slopes have been reduced to 3h:iv. According
to the permit, the pit will be up to 20 feet in depth. No mining has occurred to date on
the east aide of the pit.
A topsoil pile has been stockpiled on the south side of the pit. The pile has not been
vegetated to protect it from wind or water erosion. In the permit file, Rio Blanco County
committed to revegetating topsoil piles within a 90-day time frame. The County will need
to vegetate the topsoil stockpile this fall for the purpose of stabilization.
