(Page 2) <br />MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-2000-073 <br />INSPECTION DATE 6/30/04 <br />INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ESC <br />This was an inspection of the Shults Gravel Pit conducted by Erica Crosby and Carl Mount <br />of the Division of Minerals and Geology. Scott Nielsen of Rio Blanco County was present <br />during the inspection. <br />The site is located 10 miles west of Meeker in Rio Blanco County, Colorado. An 110c <br />permit was issued on June 23, 2000. The gravel extracted from the site is used to serve <br />the needs of Rio Blanco County Road and Bridge in road repair and surfacing. Amine <br />identification sign was posted at the entrance to the site, and permit boundary markers <br />were identified. <br />A small area has been recently mined on the west end of the site to a depth of 10-15 feet. <br />Mining is not yet complete in this area, but slopes have been reduced to 3h:iv. According <br />to the permit, the pit will be up to 20 feet in depth. No mining has occurred to date on <br />the east aide of the pit. <br />A topsoil pile has been stockpiled on the south side of the pit. The pile has not been <br />vegetated to protect it from wind or water erosion. In the permit file, Rio Blanco County <br />committed to revegetating topsoil piles within a 90-day time frame. The County will need <br />to vegetate the topsoil stockpile this fall for the purpose of stabilization.
