(Page 21
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-66-004
INSPECTION DATE fit30- INSPECTOR'S INITIALS SSS
G~IFl-6!'
OBSERVATIONS
This was a routine monitoring inspection of the Brandstadt Pit, located approximately 4 miles east of Delta. The operation is
permitted to disturb 3.5 acres for the dry extraction of sand and gravel.
There are approximately two acres disturbed at this time. Topsoil and overburden have been stockpiled as planned. These
stockpiles will need to be graded to slopes of 3:1 grade and seeded to protect against erosion and weed infestation.
The permit boundary needs to have additional markers placed so the boundary can be more readily identified.
The mine identification sign is in compliance.
The operator needs to perform weed control measures on the affected areas of the operation where Russian knapweed has invaded.
Rule 3.1 .1016) states that weed control shall be employed for all prohibited noxious weed species, and whenever invasion of a
reclaimed area by other weed species seriously threatens the continued development of the desired vegetation. Weed control
methods shall also be used whenever the inhabitation of the reclaimed area by weeds threatens further spread of serious weed pests
to nearby areas. A list of noxious and problem weeds and control techniques for these species can be obtained from the County
Extension Service, the County Weed Control District Office, or the local office oT the Soil Conservation Service.
The approved seed mix for this site appears to need some revision to add more drought tolerant species. Species noted on adjacent
non-mined areas included, Indian ricegrass, sand dropseed, and galleta. The operator is encouraged to consider revising the permit
accordingly.
All mine sites in Colorado are required to be bonded for the actual cost of reclamation if, in the case of permit revocation and bond
forfeiture, the state were to put the reclamation work out for competitive bid. Review and recalculation of the required bond for
reclamation of this operation will take place over the next few months to ensure it is adequate to cover reclamation costs in today's
market. A detailed estimate of the recalculated cost, based on the approved mining and reclamation plans and conditions observed
during the inspection, will be forthcoming.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Harold Brandstadt
OPERATOR Same
STREET 2040 G Road
CITY/STATE/ZIP Delta, Colorado 81416
cc: Tom Gillis, DMG
^ CE
^ BL
^ FS
^ HW
^ HMWMD (CHI
^ SE
^ WOCD ICHI
^ OTHER
