many of the same species as observed on the storage yard area. Vegetation cover tended to be
a bit denser and growth height taller than on the untopsoiled area. No rilling was noted on the
North facing out slope.
Development waste pile was well mulched with perennial grasses emerging. The cover crop of
Annual Wheat and Rye had established. Other species noted throughout include American
vetch, Pens[emon species, Narrowleaf phlox, clover, occasional flax, as well as [he other
species already noted in the description of the reclaimed storage yard area. No rilling was
observed on the outslopes of the waste pile. Grass species are beginning to establish on the
outslopes. Three topsoil verification holes were dug on the development was[<; pile area. The
depths were 17", 14", and 12" with no change in the topsoil color or texture. T'he hole depth
was limited by the dryness and hardness of the soil at the deeper depth. Previous rains had
wetted [he topsoil from the surface to approx. 4". 'T'opsoil in this area seems to have a silty clay
or clay loam texture. Soil appears to be conducive to holding moisture for plant growth.
Pond 002 area had a thick stand of annual sunflowers, kochia, and other annual pioneer
species. The area to the South of Pond 002 and West of all three cells appears more compact
than the footprints of the ponds. These strips may benefit from ripping to relieve the
compaction.
SAE # 7 had a good first year stand of vegetation throughout. Hay bales are well anchored and
look to be in appropriate locations. No gullying or rilling was noted in this area.
A Loggerhead Shrike was observed in the old dead snag to the south of the concrete disposal
site. Deer scat was noted on the reclaimed development waste pile.
Overall the mine site is in good condition. Vegetation is progressing well for the first growing
season after planting.
