many of the same species as observed on the storage yard area. Vegetation cover tended to be <br />a bit denser and growth height taller than on the untopsoiled area. No rilling was noted on the <br />North facing out slope. <br />Development waste pile was well mulched with perennial grasses emerging. The cover crop of <br />Annual Wheat and Rye had established. Other species noted throughout include American <br />vetch, Pens[emon species, Narrowleaf phlox, clover, occasional flax, as well as [he other <br />species already noted in the description of the reclaimed storage yard area. No rilling was <br />observed on the outslopes of the waste pile. Grass species are beginning to establish on the <br />outslopes. Three topsoil verification holes were dug on the development was[<; pile area. The <br />depths were 17", 14", and 12" with no change in the topsoil color or texture. T'he hole depth <br />was limited by the dryness and hardness of the soil at the deeper depth. Previous rains had <br />wetted [he topsoil from the surface to approx. 4". 'T'opsoil in this area seems to have a silty clay <br />or clay loam texture. Soil appears to be conducive to holding moisture for plant growth. <br />Pond 002 area had a thick stand of annual sunflowers, kochia, and other annual pioneer <br />species. The area to the South of Pond 002 and West of all three cells appears more compact <br />than the footprints of the ponds. These strips may benefit from ripping to relieve the <br />compaction. <br />SAE # 7 had a good first year stand of vegetation throughout. Hay bales are well anchored and <br />look to be in appropriate locations. No gullying or rilling was noted in this area. <br />A Loggerhead Shrike was observed in the old dead snag to the south of the concrete disposal <br />site. Deer scat was noted on the reclaimed development waste pile. <br />Overall the mine site is in good condition. Vegetation is progressing well for the first growing <br />season after planting. <br />
