III. COMMENTS - COMPLL4NCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during the
inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or
evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Joe Dudash of the Colorado DRMS. No one represented the operator
during the field inspection.
Facilities
The operator has begun removing equipment from the mine office building. Two small dumpsters were on site
Hydrology
There was only a little water in the sediment pond. The gated primary valve was closed and the emergency
spillway was riprapped and functional. Pond inslopes were stable. The collection ditch leading into the sediment
pond was vegetated and had sufficient capacity. The water level in the hillside spring water treatment pond was
about 8 inches below the horizontal pipe. The pond was discharging about 20 gallons per minute and was the
usual orange color, which has been found to be in compliance with water quality standards.
The east side spring was flowing into the constructed channel, which leads to the treatment pond. The caps were
on the pipes of the two alluvial wells. The culvert at the mine site entrance near the gate was functional.
Roads
The paved haul road was in good condition. There was no cable strung across the road at the top of the hill. The
paved road was passable, as was the bridge. The front gate was latched but not locked. The protection berm
along the mine site next to the river was in place and was functional.
Sins and Markers
The wooden post that holds the mine ID sign and records location sign is still down and needs to be put back up.
The "no trespassing" sign was on the front gate.
Reclamation
There was a good vegetative cover on the reclaimed slopes. However, tamarisk continues to grow along the
water's edge of the hillside spring water treatment pond, at the east side spring and near the entrance gate. There
are a few thistle plants growing on the east side of the reclaimed facilities area.
c awordlbear3/ i n spOb07
