The comments include discussion of observations
made during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during
the inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a complete inspection of the Twin Pines Mine conducted by Jim Stark of
CDMG. The bond for this site was forteited after reclamation was completed. The
weather was cold and cloudy and the ground was covered with snow.
The coal sales/tipple area was covered with about one -two inches of snow. The
area appeared to be stable and in good condition. The remaining pond contained
a small amount of water at the bottom. The pond appeared to be stable and in
good condition. Although there was some snow on the ground, the mine site
appeared to be well vegetated. There was little grazing at this site during the past
summer and the overall condition of this area has improved greatly. The access
road to this part of the mine is a county road.
The portal area was covered with several inches of snow. This area appeared to be
stable and in good condition. Due to the amount of snow on the ground the
vegetation was not visible. The remaining highwall appeared to be stable. The
remaining pond at the portal bench was stable and dry. The road leading to the
portal bench was snow covered but appeared to be stable.
Overall both areas at the Twin Pines Mine are in good condition.
