III. COMMFNrS-COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection The comments include discussion of observations made during
the inspection Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the
facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was an aerial inspection flown by Harry Ranney of the Colorado Division of Minerals.
Oblique aerial photographs were taken of the mine site on April 15 Kent Gorham of the
CDMG reviewed the photos in the office on April 19. The Rimrock Mine consists of
approximately seven acres of reclamation.
Hydrologic Balance
The sediment pond at the site
was visible and appeared to
hold a small amount of water.
Runoff in the form of snowmelt
from the storm on April 10 is the
likely cause for the pond water.
The embankment appeared
normal with no sign of damage.
Reclamation Success
As can be seen in the photo, the
site is an open grassland
surrounded by pinion-juniper
slopes. The reclaimed area
blends well into the surrounding
lands. The site has achieved
the post-mining land use of
rangeland as determined by
function. Although cattle are not
visible on the reclaimed area,
the landowner has grazed the
reclaimed area each fall for at
least the last three years.
Overall, the site appeared in
excellent condition for the early
spring season. Nothing
warranting on-the-ground
inspection was observed in any
of the photos reviewed.
