~~

Henderson Mine and Mill
January 9, 1992
Page 2
tailings area. Annual material cost of Coherex is appro:Kimately
$100,000. Additionally, the tailing basin preparation w,is staged
to allow the forest to serve as a natural windbreak and Ito not
expose soils to erosion. Soil cover is placed and vegetation is
established on the tailing dam face as the dam is raised. Long
term windbreak protection of the tailings area has been preserved
by not allowing forest harvesting activities on adjacent lands.
We have also developed research plots to insure the best
practical stabilization and revegetation of the tailings area at
final reclamation.
As the impoundment area has grown, so has the need 1'or more
effective control of fugitive dust emissions. At this time,
technical and operating parameters such as the operation of the
`drips', the late season application of Coherex and the timount of
beach necessary for dam stability are being re-evaluated by the
Mill operations department. Additionally, the Mill engineering
group is evaluating alternative means of dust suppressant:
application and alternative dust control products. We arse
confident that these efforts will prove effective in minimizing
our fugitive dust emissions.
I appreciate the time taken to familiarize yourself with the
Henderson Mine and Mill operation. Similarly, I found tY.ie tour
group of December 19 quite interesting, asking about the
reclamation details of our operation and overall environmental
control. Please contact me if additional information is
necessary.
Sincerely,
~~~
J. J. Jones
Environmental Manager
