As noted in this permit application, some mining has occurred at this site
for a number of years.
2. Areas that were mined prior to the Mined land Reclamation Act have a
number of soil/overburden stockpiles. These piles are heavily infested by
Russian thistle.
3. Areas that have been mined since obtaining a Mined Land Reclamation permit
have topsoil salvaged and separate from any reject overburden material. These
stockpiles are heavily infested by russian thistle and other invading species.
4. New permit encompasses part of motorcycle track on northeast side. Due to
activities at this site, almost no topsoil exists on this area.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. Operator should submit new map depicting location of power poles and power
line going through the property. Also, the operator should submit a narrative
describing how the integrity of the power poles and power lines will be
maintained.
2. Operator should seed topsoil stockpiles this fall rather than delaying to
next spring. Seeding this fall will allow for earlier germination next
spring. Also, the operator may consider seeding the older topsoil and
soil/overburden piles to alleviate the Russian thistle invasion problem.
PVOC/pjh
Doc. No. 6286
.. I
