Long
Division Director
Mr. Gepfert returned my earlier telephone call (lefr a message on voice mail). The purpose of the
discussion was to obtain more information on the artesian well a short distance east from [he lower
air shafr fan of the mine.
Mr. Gepfert related that there were two water rights associated with the mine, a 0.1 cubic feet per
second (cfs) Sunlight Mine Hoisting Well, ID 5819, and a Lynch Ditch Moda Ranch Enlargement
right (1626) for 0.2 cfs. Both of these rights were filed on water from the mine.
The headgate and flume associated with the current ditch relates to an 1887 water right from
Fourmile Creek.
The neazby well was drilled in the spring of 1995 under Permit 25430 MH (Sunlight Hollow). The
MH in the designation is for a monitoring well. Mr. Gepfert does not think that the well is a pipe
from the mine. As the two mine related water rights are not being exercised (no water being pumped
or obtained from the mine) they aze being considered for abandonment.
Other related information provided:
Current Name: Aragonaut Farms, Land Owner: Virginia Stainton, Address 7101 County Road 117.
