(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1998-052
INSPECTION DATE 11/06/02 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ESC
OBSERVATIONS
This was an acreage release inspection of the Rock Island Operation conducted by Erica
Crosby of the Division of Minerals and Geology. Sam McCleneghan of Rock Island Land Co.,
LLC and Larry Brown of L.F. Brown & Assoc. Inc. were present during the inspection.
The Rock Island Operation is located 8 miles northeast of Breckenridge in Summit County,
Colorado. The 110 Mining and Reclamation Permit was issued to Rock Island Land Co., LLC on
July 22, 1998 for a permit area of 9.9 acres. The postmining land use is Wildlife Habitat.
The Division holds a reclamation bond in the amount of $69,844.00.
The acreage release request would remove all but 1.94 acres from the permit area. The
remaining features would include the access road leading to the site, the stockpile area,
work area and the unmined tailing area. The map submitted with the acreage release request
depicts the new permit boundary area. A copy of the acreage release request map is included
with this inspection report for clarif ication. _The areas highlighted in yellow will remain
under the Rock Island Mine operation.
A majority of the site has been mined to level ground. Portions of dredge rock remain on the
western edge of the permit area. The operator retained some dredge rock along the edge of
the Swan River. A steep slope remains on the "pit side" of the dredge rock. The operator
will need to reduce the slope of the dredge piles that mimics the slopes of historic piles,
or to a grade of 3h:ly. The operator will need to reduce the slope and submit documentation
in the form of photographs by December 6, 2002 in order for the acreage release request to be
approved. If documentation of slope reduction is not received by this date, the acreage
release request will be denied in its entirety.
I & E Contact Address
^ CE
NAME Mr. Sam McCleneghan ^ BL
OPERATOR Rock Island Land Co., LLC ^ FS
STREET P.O.
