<br />III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE <br />Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made <br />during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection <br />and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action. <br />On July 16, 1998, William J. Carter, from the Division of Minerals and Geology, performed a partial <br />inspection of the Hawk's Nest Mine. During the inspection the weather was hot and dry. <br />Roads• <br />Damage continues to occur on old highway 133 due to the West spring at the east portal not being <br />carried in the barrow ditch. This should be corrected when the DMG works revegetating portions of <br />the site. <br />Hydrologic Balance: <br />• The west spring at the east portal was flowing at the time of the inspection. <br />• The sediment pond did not contain any standing water a[ the time of this inspection. <br />Revegetation• <br />Revegetation should be attempted at the -ocations where the previous seeded azeas have not been a <br />success. Most of these azeas aze high in coal waste and lack any topsoil. <br />
