- COMPLIANC
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments rnclude discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken dunng the ~nspect~on
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division of Minerals
and Geology. This former underground mine is reclaimed. Remaining buildings and
structures are approved to remain as permanent structures. Ground conditions were dry
and the weather was warm. Mr. Albert luppa, landowner, visited with me following the
completion of the inspection.
Hydrologic Balance
The sediment pond held water near the top of the riser. Water in the pond was slightly
murky, indicating some amount of inflow in the recent past. The pond embankment and
spillway appeared normal and in good condition, The trash rack was found intact on the
riser. Hundreds of small minnows were noted in the pond. Cattails occupy about one-half of
the pond and provide a home for numerous redwing blackbirds.
A small breach was noted on the third contour ditch from the bottom on the refuse slope.
This breach is some 200 feet west of the armored section of the refuse ditch. This breach
should be fixed with minimal disruption to the surrounding vegetation. Also, side cutting of
the armored section of Refuse ditch No 1 continues. Gully repair and land shaping to help
flows enter the ditch is necessary.
Revegetation
Although cool season grasses and fortis have dried down somewhat, vegetation success this
year remains high. Warm season grasses are beginning to grow due to warm temperatures
but only a few plants have set seed heads. Red and orange flags were noted over the
reclaimed area, likely a remnant of the vegetation sampling done last month. Cattle or
evidence of grazing were not observed on the reclamation.
