III. Comments/Compliance
This was a partial inspection conducted by Jim Burnell of CDMG on August 14, 2006. The
weather was warm and sunny. The mine site was deserted and quiet.
The road to the facilities area was in excellent condition. Rock check structures seem to be
working to arrest down-cutting of the road ditch along the Marr pit area.
The sign at the mine entrance was updated to include the proper address for the location of
mine records in Steamboat Springs. The gate was not locked as contractors were on site
working on the reclamation of pond C. The permit boundary markers east of pond A had
been knocked down by the cattle and were not noticeable.
Pond A contained a small amount of water. The dam was stable and in good repair and the
emergency spillway was clear.
Pond B contained a small amount of water. The dam structure was stable and the
emergency spillway was clear.
Pond C was in the process of reclamation
Pond D contained a small amount of water. The dam was covered with a thick stand of
wheatgrass. The emergency spillway was clear. There was some erosion down the North-
facing slope from the facilities pad to the pond.
Pond E contained water a small amount of water. The dam was stable and the emergency
spillway was clear.
Pond F contained muddy water below the discharge level. The dam structure was stable
and the emergency spillway was clear.
Pond G was reclaimed. The regrading was good, replicating the aoc. The area had not yet
been seeded.
The sign for topsoil pile above pond F was in place.
The 720 pit area slopes were stable, although there was some minor erosion along the slope
facing the upper end of ditch PD-1, along aseldom-used old two-track road. The upper end
of ditch PD-1, on the steep east-facing slope, appeared the same as last fall with some
minor down-cutting, but nothing greater this spring. There was erosion along the west-facing
slope in the drainage above the twin culverts and some erosion of the ditch beside the road,
opposite the twin culverts, leading to pond E.
The slopes of the pit 1 area appeared stable.
Weed spraying had not yet been conducted on the mine site as there was abundant Canada
thistle in a number of locations. Many of the locations identified in last month's inspection
were unsprayed and some additional areas of thistle infestation were noted, particularly in
the drainages directly above ponds B and C, up the drainage above the twin culverts and or
the slope facing the twin culverts.
