(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1981-279
INSPECTION DATE 11/30/2006 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS DEG
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection of Permit Number M-1981-279 (Hancock Gravel Pit) was conducted by Deb E. Gonima of the DRMS as part of
the routine monitoring and inspection protocol. Darren Garcia of Otero County (Engineering) was present during this inspection.
The pit is located 1 mile west and 1.5 miles south of Rocky Ford, CO, and currently consists of approximately 92 acres where
approximately 90 acres have been disturbed.
Tamarisk was observed in a small section in the active pit area and adjacent to the mine access road (see Problem No. 1 on
pg. 3) -see circled areas in photos 2 and 3. The Operator was advised to treat the Tamarisk while the infestation is relatively
small and localized. The Operator must submit a weed control and management plan to the Division, per Rule 3.1.10(6), on or
before March 1, 2007. This plan should be developed in consultation with the county extension agency, orweed control district
office, and should include specific control measures to be applied, a schedule of when the control measures will be applied,
and apost-spray monitoring plan.
Mine entrance signs and permit boundary markers were all in place, and there were a few material stockpiles on site. There
was no equipment on site at the time of this inspection, and it was explained to this inspector that no fuel or other hazardous
materials are stored on site, and no evidence of fuel or hazardous materials was observed. Topsoil has been stockpiled along
the perimeter of the active portion of the pit. All activities and completed work at the time of inspection appeared to follow the
guidelines and regulations set forth by the state and the approved mining and reclamation plans for the pit, and no additional
problems are noted for this site.
The site is stable, and no disturbance was observed outside of the approved permit boundaries. For future reference, this site
is correctly positioned in the DRMS online GIS.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Deb E. Gonima at the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety,
Denver Office, 1313 Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver, Colorado 80203, phone number 303-866-4179.
I & E Contact Address cc: ^ CE
NAME Kenneth S.
