(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-199f~-nt;a
INSPECTION DATE: June 197001

INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: -!IL_
OBSERVATIONS
Completed an inspection of this site as part of a Mined land Reclamation Board directive to inspect every mine in the state
at least once every four years.
This is a 40 acre 11Z Regular Permit located about 4)4 miles northeast of Castle Rock on Crowfoot Valley Road. Locally, the
access road exit from the paved road is 6237 Crowfoot Valley Road. Bear right on a well groomed dirt road to the permit
area (approximately'/. of a mile).
Only 23 acres will be disturbed at this site; 20 acres of mined area and 3 acres of detention pond. No more than 10 acres
will be disturbed at any one time. The $51,627 financial warranty appears sufficient to reclaim 10 acres of disturbance.
However, the financial warranty requirement will be re-calculated within the next few weeks. If an increase is warranted, a
letter will be mailed notifying the permittee of the required increase.
A mine ID sign is up and the permit boundaries are adequately delineated
It appears the operator is excavating clay material in both phase 1 and phase 3. However, total disturbance appears to be
less than 10 acres. Mining is progressing from east to west. Clay is excavated, stockpiled and removed when needed. A small
excavated pit exists on the north side of a large stockpile (a remnant of mining activities). The pit contains about 2 feet of
water. It is not a very large pit (approximately 25' X 507 and the water appears to be runoff from a recent storm event.
However, it will noted as a problem on page 3 of this report and a copy of this report will be sent to the Office of the State
Engineer (SEO) for their review. In addition, the permittee should contact the SEO for a determination whether there is a
water rights problem with the standing water, and if the SEO requires a response addressing water rights issues, the
permittee must send copies of all correspondence to the Division. If the SEO decides there are no water rights issues, the
permittee should inform the Division of their decision. A corrective action date will be set for October 1, 2001. If the
problem is not resolved by fhe due date, the permittee should ask for an extension so the SEO will have sufficient time to
respond.
The location of the access road where it enters the permit area does not agree with the approved permit maps. The road is
located on the east side of the detention pond. The maps show it on the west side of the detention pond. This is noted as a
problem on page 3 of this report. If the road is not properly located, the permittee must submit a technical revision to revise
the permit by describing where the road is located and by showing the actual location of the road on the revised maps. A
Technical revision must be submitted to the DMG by August 21, 2001. An applicable fee is required.
No other obvious problems noted.
Ce~~t ;C~~eG i~cu~~
~GGO fe~o t7oou Ob~~ ~47~
I & E Contact Address
James Stevens
NAME: Gary L Vines cc: ^ CE
^ BL
OPERATOR: The Denver Brick Comoanv ^ FS
STREET: 401 Prairie Hawk Drive _ ^ HW
^ HMWMD (CH)
CITY/STATE/ZIP: Castle Rork CO 80104 ^ SE
^ WQCD (CH)
^ OTHER
