Below are comments on the itmpation the comrtwrtsnxlude discussion of obscvatione made during the
inspection. Conmenra also describe arty art'oreenwk actions taken during Ure irepection and the thcfe or
evidence supporting the ad'orcarraa action
This was a regular complde irmpecfion of the Man• Mine con8rded 69 Jim 13rrme1l of DMG, begirming at 11
am, 30 Septenrba 1997. The weather was cool, clear, and calm A breeze picked up 8om the south ee
attarwon carrK The inspector was unaccompanied, and flee no one was at the site. Tlure was ample evidarce
of recent rains, a9 thce was standing watt and mud m marry places.
AraYabily of Records: The motion of the mine records ie much improved over the previous
inspection. Nearly all the requisite records are readily available in a single file. The other necessary
records are available nearby, slang with the permit application.
3ign/Mahese: T1re sig,r at the aararice has been rreodi£ied to include the Division of Minaale and Geology..
Roads: The entrance (light use) road is well maintained and in good condition despite the recent mina.
Likewise, the road to access Pond G ie functional.
I~~olo{le Bahrree: water in all the panels was standing at a higher level than the tan several months a. a
result of the recut raven Pond G water ie cloudy, 24 inches below discharge. Both the dam and the
emergency epillvvay are stable and th good condition. The water ie Pond F ie muddy, standing 14
inches below the outlet - no discharge. The dam and the emergency spillway are both stable. Pond A
water is cloudy, etarudvtg 3 inches below the outfitll; the dam and the emergency spillway ere both
stable. In Pond D, the water was cloudy, 6 inches below discharge. Pond C water ie very muddy from
the runoff firnn the facilities area, 8 several inches below discharge. Pond B still contains
muddy weber, as it elands 6 inches below the outlet. AIl these dams are stable. Pond E is lush with
hydraphytic vegetation. Water level of Pond E is muddy, the level tight at discharge, so a trickle of
water is discharging (~ 1 gpan.)
There has been no activity yet to repair the drainage between the double culverts and Pond E
(extension of Drainage PD4). The drainage from the double culverhs to Pond E is stable below the
eroded area. There ie no evidence of eignificartt new erosion.
Drainage PD3 ie stable and dry. The drainage between Canadian mine and Pond A is stable and
is still moist with mud and standing water throughout. The contour firrrows all around the slopes of the
720 Pit reclaimed area show mud and standing water behind them. These features eacceesfiilly held
back a lot of water dtuing the recent storm(s).
Bacldrll and Grading: A zone of diffemetial settling cracks has developed on the east-facing elope of
the 720 reclaim near the Sw ceaner of the permit area. The zone is 30-40-feet long with cracks as deep
as 8" and is about 213 of the way up the slope.
Generr-1 Miae Plan Compliance: The perimeter fence ie secure and in good repair all around the
permit area.
Topsoil: Thane ie some erosion on the south-facing elope of the 720 pit reclaimed area in the SW
comer of the permit area. At the "top end" of the 720 pit drainage, there ie some erosion under the
netting that was placed on the steep elope at the head of the drainage. Perennial vegetation is coming up
