III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during the
inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or evidence
supporting the enforcement action.
This partial inspection of the Coal Gulch Mine was conducted by DMG staff from the Durango
Office, 701 Camino del Rio, Room 125, Durango, CO 81301, phone (970) 247-5469. The permit
was revoked over 5 years ago. Financial warranty was forfeited and utilized for final
reclamation.
Removal of imported debris and material stockpiles was occurring. Material had previously
been imported by Fire Hawk Contractors and processed on-site. Material previously stockpiled
against the outslope of the sediment pond was being removed. Embankment for the sediment
pond appeared intact, not damaged from current activities. The sediment pond was holding
water, approximately 1' depth. No discharge noted.
Within one week of the inspection, all stockpiled material had been removed and area re-graded.
wNr J.e' Coal Gulch had been realigned to direct drainage to the culvert under Hwy 160. Re-graded
areas appeared stable.
Vegetative cover was well established for areas not re-disturbed by Fire Hawk or by recent re-
grading activities.
