III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during
the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the
facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection of the Edna Mine conducted by Tom Kaldenbach of the Colorado
Division of Minerals and Geology. No one else was present.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE
Water levels in the West Ridge and Center Ridge ponds appeared slightly lower than during last
month's inspection.
Conductivity exceeded the 1990 mmhos/cm limit of my conductivity meter at three springs that each
had a trickle of flow at points labeled ©, and©. B and C probably are spoil springs
discharging from pre-law spoil. The origin of A is uncertain.
REVEGETATION
Cover and diversity. As noted at this time last year, revegetation is sparse in the topsoiled portion of
the West Ridge area, southwest of the West Ridge Road. The non-topsoiled part of the West Ridge
area was densely covered with alfalfa, although not as lush as last year, probably due to a drier spring
this year. Other vegetation on reclaimed areas included: cicer milkvetch, yellow sweet clover, wheat
grasses, mountain brome, sagebrush, and rabbit brush.
Weeds. Oxeye daisy were sparse at the West Ridge Road "Supercurve", and have not been found
elsewhere on the site this year.
RECLAMATION SUCCESS
Overall, the Edna Mine appeared in good shape. Revegetated areas were in good growing condition,
although rain is needed. Slopes appeared stable and erosion appeared under control.
3
