(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1977-570
INSPECTION DATE_3/21/06 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS RCO
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was performed by the Division as part of its monitoring of Construction Materials 110 permits. The operator
was contacted about the scheduled inspection. The operator's representative named on page one was present during the
inspection.
The permit boundary was adequately marked by fencelines on the south and east. The entrance gate mars the NE corner of
the site, and the NW corner is marked by a single steel Tpost. All past mining activity has occurred inside the permit boundary.
The permit ID sign has been observed during past inspections, but appeared to be missing at the time of the present
inspection. The operator should replace the ID sign (see Rule 3.1.12 for the required information to be displayed on the sign).
The site was inactive during the inspection, and has been inactive for several years. There was no equipment, no cars, and no
mining debris at the site. Stockpiled material is limited to about a thousand yards of pitrun (in the western part of the pit) and
several hundred yards of fines (in a low smooth pile in the eastern part of the pit). The slopes of the pitrun should at least be
graded down, or better yet, smoothed back against the steep NW walls of the pit. The fines pile may remain in place, since its
slopes are much gentler than 3:1, but it might be a good material to spread evenly across the pit floor to enhance the depth of
growth medium prior to spreading the topsoil.
Topsoil is termed along the eastern and southern sides of the permit, above the pit slopes, inside the fences. It is fairlyfree of
annual weeds and appears to be sufficient to reclaim the site. The site is accessible to livestock, which will prevent or delay
successfully establishing revegetation. At the time of reclamation, the operator should be in consultation and coordination with
the landowner, to defer grazing there, possibly by using fencing to temporarily exclude grazing on the permit area.
The pit slopes are generally steeper than the approved final gradient in the reclamation plan, and will need to be dozed down.
South and east slope grading should be done carefully to avoid damaging the topsoil prior to replacing it on reclaimed surfaces.
There is a small low pile of old waste asphaltjust NW of the pit, that is capped with topsoil or overburden, that never became
well vegetated. This pile should be stripped and the asphalt moved to the nearest portions of the pit, where the steepest pit
slopes are, and buried onsite during reclamation grading.
There is unmined land within the permit boundaries, north and west of the pit, which is level and well vegetated. Disturbance to
these areas should be avoided if possible, since presently there is no reclamation required there.
The operator stated that there may be limited to no mining at this site in the future, and expressed interest in reclaiming some
or all of the site. The permit's approved reclamation plan should be reviewed prior to commencing reclamation. If different
reclamation details, especially the revegetation seed mix, are desired it may require a technical revision to the permit. Please
contact this office if there are questions.
No noxious weeds were noted. No further items were observed during the inspection. Responses to this inspection report
should be directed to the Division of Minerals and Geology, 701 Camino del Rio, Room 125, Durango, Colorado 81301, Attn:
Bob Oswald; phone no. 970-247-5193.
I & E Contact Address cc: Bruce Humphries, DMG
^ CE
NAME Randy Arredondo ^ BL
OPERATOR Saauache County Road and Bridge ^ FS
STREET PO Box 476 ^ HW
CITY/STATE/ZIP Saauache CO 81149 ^ HMWMD (CH)
^ SE
^ WOCD (CH)
^ OTHER
