• (Page 2)
MINE ID / OR PROSPECTING ID / M-96-064
INSPECTION DATE 1 3 96 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS AJW
OBSERVATIONS
Thie was a pre-operation inspection conducted by Tony Waldron of DMG along with Wayne Spence
of Denver Brick Company and Michael Stanton of Quaternary Environmental Consultants. The
site ie approximately 40 scree in size and ie located about halfway between Castle Rock and
Parker off of Crowfoot Valley Road in the NE 1/4 of the NW 1/4 of Section 8, Township 7
South, Range 66 West, 6th P.M.
The site ie gently eloping rangeland dominated by short-grass prairie vegetation. There is
a small tributary drainage to Lemon Gulch that traverses through the southwestern part of the
permit area that harbors come woody type vegetation, however, this area ie not elated for
disturbance. All permanent structures, such as fences, have been properly identified on the
pre-mining map. All of the baseline information that was submitted as part of the
application appears to be accurate.
Two items that were discussed in the field involved the access road into the permit area and
the poetmining topography. The access concern was whether any substantial upgrades were
going to be made to the existing two track road to support the mining operation. Mr. Spence
indicated that no upgrading was necessary due to the limited amount material haulage that
would be occurring and that no material would be removed during under wet conditions. The
second concern involved surface water drainage after reclamation ie completed. A small gully
currently rune through the northeast part of the permit area. Thie area ie elated for
disturbance and the concern was that the proposed postmining topography did not address
replacement of the small drainage feature to handle the small watershed above the reclaimed
area. The operator indicated that some additional conservation features such as contour
furrows or terraces would be installed to address this situation or the small drainage would
be re-established to convey runoff from the small watershed above the reclaimed area.
Additional items discussed included the proposed eeedmix, the exact location of the proposed
sedimentation pond, and the extent of the proposed disturbance. The Colorado Division of
Wildlife had indicated a concern about the potential disturbance of woody habitat along the
perimeter of the proposed affected area. Ae previously mentioned, the operator identified
the extent of the proposed disturbance and it dose not include the existing woody habitat.
I 6 E Contact Address
NAME Wavne Spence
OPERATOR Denver Brick Comoanv
STREET Box 1600 (401 Santa Fe Road)
CITY/STATE/ZIP Castle Rock.
