INSPECTION REPORT - PAGE 2
FILE N0. 81-22
DATE: April 9, 1985

OBSERVATIONS OF IMPORTANCE:
1. Mining is occurring at the SE corner of the permit area.
2. Topsoil storage is occurring to the north and west of the active pit
area and the piles are stabilized with vegetation.
3. Dewatering is in process as specified in the permit.
4. Overburden storage is adjacent to topsoil stockpiles (north of the pit}.
5. There exists considerable trash and concrete rubble over the south wa]1
of the pit.
6. The south, east and north walls are nearly vertical.
7. The south pit wall is approaching the railroad berm.
8. There exists material stockpiles, a concrete batch plant and an office
trailer to west of the allowable permit boundary.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. Topsoil must be protected and kept separate from overburden materials.
Please protect they topsoil during future topsoil relocation activities.
Topsoil piles should be revegetated when moved.
2. Trash materials sFiould not be dumped at the mine site. Existing trash
must be buried whE:n reclamation begins so as to eliminate any possible
hazards to future lake site users.
3. Final reclamation will require 3H:1V sloping along all lake shores.
Please leave sufficient work areas and material between the permit
boundary and the {pit so that 3H:1V sloping will be readily feasible.
4. Please do not mine any closer to the railroad track along the south
permit border. Tlie operator can be held responsible for any damage to
the stability of the railroad berm.
5. Existance of mine related activities, including the stockpiles and batch
plant, beyond approved permit boundaries does constitute a possible
violation. Pleas~a submit documentation as soon as possible that Larimer
County has required that the plant be located at its present position
and that the plant does not belong to Glass Livestock Co.
9408E
