(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1998-052
INSPECTION DATE 7/17/02
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ESC
This was an inspection of the Rock Island Operation conducted by Erica Crosby of the
Division of Minerals and Geology. The operator was not present for the inspection.
The Rock Island Operation is located 8 miles northeast of Breckenridge in Summit County,
Colorado. The 110 Mining and Reclamation Permit was issued to Rock Island Land Co., LLC on
July 22, 1998 for a permit area of 9.9 acres. The postmining land use is Wildlife Habitat.
The Division holds a reclamation bond in the amount of $69,844.00.
The mining operation involves removing existing dredge tailings along the south banks of Swan
River. The dredge tailing piles range from 10 to 20 feet in height. No mining was taking
place during the inspection. A loader and portable screening unit were located on site, but
were not in use. It appears that a majority of the site has been mined. The pit floor is
nearly level and is surrounded by small piles of dredge tailings. A Technical Revision (TR-
01) was approved by the Division on April 6, 2001 that changed the reclamtion requirements
so revegetation of graded dredge piles is not required.
The Division was unable to locate a mine identification sign at the entrance to the site.
Rule 3.1.12 of the Construction Materials Rules and Regulations requires the operator to
post a sign clearly visible from the access road with the name of the Operator, a
statement that a reclamation permit for the operation has been issued by the Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Board, and the permit number. Proof of compliance must be
submitted to the Division in the form of photographs by September 17, 2002.
I & E Contact Address
^ CE
NAME Mr. Sam McCleneghan ^ BL
OPERATOR Rock Island Land Co., LLC ^ FS
STREET P.O.
