Robert Shevling of Seneca Coal Company (SCC) was present during the
inspection. Weather conditions were cloudy and windy. Ground conditions were very dry
throughout the mine site. There was no activity at the mine site during this inspection.
Roads
Road surfaces site wide were dry and there was no running water in any of the road ditches.
Access roads were well maintained and no problems were noted.
Avdrologic Balance
A lower than normal snowpack at the mine site has resulted in very little runoff from mine site
areas.
Ponds 002, 003, 004, and 008 were inspected. All of the site sedimentation ponds were full and
discharging clear water. Pond 008 was discharging through the lower orifice of the drop irilet
structure, and appeazed to be several feet lower than normal for this time of year. The Truck
Wash Ponds were holding water but not discharging. No problems were noted at any of the pond
locations.
The lower portion of Postmining Channel PM-6 was inspected. Construction of this channel is
ongoing and should be completed by July, 2002. There did not appear to be a significant amount
of erosion in the channel bottom, along the lower portion of the channel where construction has
not been completed. Riprap is stockpiled along this lower stretch of the channel in prepazation
for final construction of the postmining channel.
Reveeetation
The vegetation particularly in the Upper Wolf Creek Pit azea appeazs to have been impacted by
the very dry conditions at the mine site. Some rills and gullies aze forming in the area above
Stock Tank T-32. Continue to monitor this azea and make repairs as necessary to reduce erosion.
The Shrub Establishment Area located in the former Wage Pit area was viewed. Abundant
weeds aze becoming established both inside and outside of the elk fence. This area is very dry,
which has impacted the establishment of shrubs.
