• (Page 2)
MINE ZD # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-
INSPECTION DATE INSPECTOR'S INITIALS TAS
OBSERVATIONS
1. A site inspection was made of the Thornburg Pit as part of the Division's 4-year
inspection program. .The Thornburg Pit is located 1.5 miles northeast of Bennett. Present
during the inspection was Stanley Thornburg.
2. The Thornburg Pit is permitted for a total disturbance of 106.747 acres. Alluviual dry
mining methods are employed. The operator has posted a financial warranty of $14,000 in
the form of a Corporate Surety. The post-mining land use is cropland. Approximately 65.6
acres will be seeded to alfalfa and 21.0 acres will be seeded with native rangeland
grasses.
3. Signs and markers were posted as required by Rule 3.1.12.
4. The Thornburg Pit is currently active with all disturbance occuring within the permit area
and in accordance with the approved mine plan. A majority of Area 1 is currently
disturbed. Approximately 50$ of disturbed slopes have been graded to a configuration of
3:1. The remaining disturbed slopes have not yet been graded to reclamation contours. The
operator has done a good job of salvaging available topsoil.
5. This inspector estimates the current reclamation liability to include $1,000 worth of
finish grading work, respreading several thousand cubic yards of available topsoil and
revegetation of the Area 1. The existing financial warranty is adequate to cover these
costs.
6. Mr. Thornburn expressed an interest in reducing the permitted aceage by 3-5 acres in the
eastern portion of the permit area. This area was inspected and found~to be undisturbed by
mining. Mr. Thornburg is encouraged to apply for an acreage reduction or a financial
warranty release for the acreage in question in conformance with the requirements of Rule
4.16 (see attached copy). At a minimum, the request should include a description of the area
and acreage involved and a mining plan map showing the specific area or area(s) to be
released from further reclamation responsibility.
I & E Contact Address
^ CE
NAME Mr. Stanley Thornburn ^ BL
OPERATOR Thornburn Family Limited Partnership ^ FS
STREET 50747 E. 38`° Avenue ^ HW
CITY/STATE/ZIP Bennett, CO 70102 ^ HMWMD (CH)
^ SE
cc: Carl Mount, DMG ^ WQCD (CH)
Attachment
