III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE <br />Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made <br />during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection <br />and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action. <br />erosional or slope stability problems at this waste pile and at the old waste pile, The vegetative cover at the old <br />waste pile was good. <br />Run-of--Mine (ROM) Stockpile <br />There was a little standing water in the sediment pond. The gated valve was closed. Pond inslopes and outslopes <br />were well vegetated and stable. The collection ditches and culverts at this site were functional. The graveled <br />haul road was in very good condition. Surface disturbance mazkers were up, although a few more markers may <br />be needed to better deftne the entra..ce road. T.".e operator will replace Lhe mire IL'si~: soon. The topsoil <br />stockpile was well vegetated but the sign was off of its post. <br />West Mine <br />There was good vegetative cover at the backfilled and graded former portal bench site. There were no signs of <br />slope instability or erosional gullying in the backfilled areas on both sides of East Roatcap Creek. The thistle at <br />this site was recently sprayed. <br />Both sediment ponds were dry. The gated valve of the upper pond was open and that of the lower pond was <br />closed, as designed. Both pond embankments appeared to be stable. The silt fence at this site had been recently <br />maintained and new straw bales had been installed. A few more surface disturbance markers may be needed at <br />this site, particularly along the reclaimed road. <br />The silt fence was recently repaired and thistle was recently sprayed at the West Mine fan site. The topsoil <br />stockpile was well gassed and the sign was up. Surface disturbance mazkers were up but the mine ID sign needs <br />to be replaced. <br />Well Field <br />The vegetative cover on the topsoil stockpile was good, although thistle needs to be sprayed at this location. The <br />topsoil sign was on its post. The mine ID sign will be replaced at this site. One or two additional surface <br />disturbance markers could be added on the east side of the topsoil stockpile. <br />Records <br />The records were in compliance, as documented on the attached records checklist <br />c;/word bowie 1 /insp0705 <br />
