ORIGINAL-PUBLIC FILE
(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: nn-t eR~-n9a
INSPECTION DATE: 6/~?/Od INSPECTOROS INITIALS: ~-
OBSERVATIONS
The Division conducted a monitoring inspection of the site on 6/23/04 as
part of site to be inspected during the fiscal years 2004 and 2005. The
site is a small 110 sad and gravel operation located approximately 10 miles
North of Stratton Colorado. Most of the material mined from the site is a
thick sand alluvium deposit, which was once the flood plain for the
numerous dry beds in the area. Site was not active at the time of the
inspection. A 631 Scrapper was located along the East side of the permit
area. Fresh mining activity along the South side of the pit area was
observed. The high wall measures approximately 6 feet. Approximately 3
acres appeared to have been disturbed. High wall appeared stable, no sign
of failure noted. When the site was last inspected on 4/4/00, the fact that
there was no topsoil salvaged was noted as a possible problem. The same
report also noted that there was plenty of usable soil available. Since the
site cannot be released until it meets the required performance standard,
the fact that there is no topsoil salvaged will not be noted as a possible
problem because the operator never committed to salvage topsoil. The only
ecmmitment in the application is to place 6 inches of overburden soil,
which is plentiful in floodplains. Since Government agencies do not post
reclamation warranties, all we can go by is the performance standard when a
site release is requested. The entire permit areas are fenced and permit
sign properly posted at the gate.
I & E Contact Address
NP~ME: MMS LYN BROWNFIELD
OPERATOR: KIT CARSON COUNTY
STF;EET: P_O.R~xthn
CFFY/STATE/ZIP: Runt wrmN rn anxn~
CC
Harry Posey (e-mail)
cc: r CE
r BL
r FS
r HW
r HMWMD (CH)
r
r SE
r WQCD (CH)
r OTHER
