III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division of Minerals
and Geology (DMG). This mine has closed and reclamation of most areas is complete.
The weather was very mild for January. Ground conditions were generally dry due to mild
temperatures.
Roads
The entrance road was mildly rutted but dry. When conditions allow, the operator should re-
work the water bars along this road to improve travel, especially as the road steepens to the
west. Currently, the water bars, although functional, are overly abrupt for vehicle travel.
Hvdrologic Balance
Two sediment ponds remain for sediment treatment during the revegetation liability period.
Both ponds appeared normal and both were dry.
Processing Waste
The refuse pile was traversed on foot along the west side. No slumps, slides, or damage of
any kind was observed.
Revegetation
Vegetation at the site is dormant given the winter season. Litter cover consisting of annual
weeds and last year's revegetation is excellent in most places and will provide valuable
hydrologic cover during the next growing season. Cattle or evidence of grazing was not
observed.
Overall, areas inspected appeared in normal condition for the winter season.
3
