Mr. Ed Brosseau - 3 - July 23, 1985
deposition of carried sediment. The main upland ditch had minor
sloughing but, in general, would carry design flow. The main road into
the site diverts drainage toward the heap pit. It was discussed that
drainage needed to be controlled at this location also. See
Recommendation No. 2.
6. The heap pit liner is non-reinforced Hypalon (?).
needs to be reinforced. Anchoring of the liner is
locations and slipping and sloughing has occurred.
in this report, the liner is not completely instal
corner. It was discussed that this work should be
Recommendation No. 3.
Generally, Hypalon
poor in most
As mentioned earlier
led in the southeast
completed. See
7. In general, the site has not been constructed with concern for good
engineering practice. Maintenance was occurring at the time of this
inspection but was occurring inefficiently due to equipment problems.
Mr. Brosseau stated that the equipment will be repaired quickly in order
to perform required maintenance.
8. Expansion of the heap was briefly discussed. Mr. Brosseau stated that
he planned to extend the heap up the slope to the north. This slopes at
approximately 25 degrees. The inspector stated that a geotechnical
analysis would be required for this expansion.
9. No cyanide drums or barrels were on the site at the time of this
inspection. It was discussed that no further cyanide or solution should
be added to this system until adequately reconstructed and repaired.
See Recommendation No. 4.
10. The Division and the Board appreciate Mr. Brosseau's cooperation during
this inspection. See Recommendation No. 5.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. Take additional soil samples to determine if cyanide levels are
decreasing. Samples should be taken by July 20, 1985. Results should
be submitted to the Division as soon as possible after results are
received.
2. Grade and/or berm the area above the agglomerator and berm the southeast
corner of the heap pit berm to divert drainage away from the heap leach
pit site. This work should be accomplished prior to July 20, 1985.
