III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during
the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the
facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection of the Edna Mine conducted by Tom Kaldenbach of the Colorado Division
of Minerals and Geology. No one else was present.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE
Water levels in the West Ridge and Center Ridge ponds were a bit lower than during last month's inspection.
Center Ridge pond was discharging a trickle. West Ridge pond level was about a foot below the primary
spillway. Koll Ditch was flowing several hundred gpm.
As part of the inspection I measured standard conductivity in Trout Creek and the Yampa River at the
seven locations shown on the map, below. I was verifying compliance with the Division's material
damage suspect level of 1,000 mmhos/cm for streams in northwestern Colorado. I made the
measurements within athree-hour period in order to provide a "snapshot" of impacts occurring at that
time. None of the values exceeded the 1,000 nunhos/cm suspect level.
RECLAMATION SUCCESS
Overall, the Edna Mine appeared in good shape. Revegetated areas were browning up; rain is needed. Slopes
appeared stable and erosion appeared under control.
3
