MAR ~ 4 204
Mr. Means: Division of Miaerv > > .., _. ,,,
The following is my response to items 1 & 2 noted on page 4 of the D.M.G ins inr,
resort dated January 29`h, 2004 at the above referenced location.
Item 1. Erosion on established slopes.
United Companies has taken the following steps to reduce-possibly eliminate future
erosion along the north slope of the pit. We dressed up the berm along the south side of
the equipment storage yard. We determined the best location and installed a valley pan
type catch basin inlet and downdrain at that location. (photo 1) This downdain outlet
discharges into the existing dewatering trench. We filled in eroded areas of this slope
with additional material. (photo 2) Discussion of seeding of this area is taking place.
Item 2. Improper storage of hazardous materials & some soil contamination.
United Companies relocated the 55 gallon containers inside the secondary containment.
(photo 3) The 5 gallon containers were removed from the site to the shop for recycling
use or proper disposal. The small amount of contaminated soil was removed and placed
at our recycle asphalt pile location. Additional base and screened rock was placed in this
area. (photo 4)
I believe United Companies has corrected these items. Let me know if you have any
questions.
Sincerely,
i..~~- ~~°~.~stin~
Brent Kerr
Resource Manager
