~,
(Page 2)
NINE ID f OR PROSPECTING ID / K-80-244
INSPECTION DATE 10-20-94
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ACS
An inspection was conducted of the phase one leach pad construction. This particular
inspection focussed on the installation of two vibrating wire piezometere on top of the
composite liner some distance above the lower anchor trench.
The piezometere being installed are denoted ae P4 and PS on the drawings, and are located in
ewalee where the 15" perforated CPE solution collection/transport pipes have been placed.
The piezometere are being installed by Colorado Engineering and Instrumentation, Inc. (CEII).
Tom Fanning of CEiI is the installation project manager, and was on site to describe and
demonstrate the equipment to ue. It was demonstrated that the instruments are sensitive
enough to detect a barometric pressure change over only a few foot change in elevation.
The installation ie achieved by extrusion welding a rectangular protective patch to the VLDPE
portion of the composite liner, then welding VLDPE straps onto the patch to hold down a
section of plastic pipe that has numerous holes drilled into it and ie open at either end.
The piezometere are placed into the pipe, and cable ie run adjacent to the 15" CPE pipe to
eventually provide an instrument read-out lead. At the time of this inspection, the
installers had placed piezometer PS into the protective length of pipe and were backfilling
it with drain cover fill; the installation was .then covered, once again with general drain
cover fill. I suggested that select drain cover fill would better suit the intended purpose.
Since the time of this inspection, it has been determined that drainage sand will be used to
surround the instruments. Well graded silica sand would be ideal. It has further been
determined that the piezometere will be field calibrated by CEII. The operator is reminded
that piezometer installation ie one of the stipulated inspection milestones.
cc: Berhan Keffelew
Carl Mount
I 6 E Contact Address
~ CE
NAME John Hardaway ~ BL
OPERATOR Cripple Creek 6 Victor Gold Co. ~ FS
STREET P.O.
