~+ h <br />Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made <br />during the Inspection. Comments also describe any enforcemerd actions taken during the inspection <br />and the facts or evidence supporting the enlorcemerd action. <br />On October 20, 1997 William J. Carter from the Division of Minerals and Geology, perfomred a <br />complete Inspection of the HawKs Nest mine. The weather was clear and warm during the <br />inspection. <br />$jen. sect Markers• <br />New signs are being made at this time and will be installed at both ends of the mine site where it <br />crosses old State Highway 133. <br />B9slls: <br />Road conditions have not eigrificantiy changed since the last inspection. <br />~jydr, oloeic Salaeee• <br />• Water coniirruee to flow from both aprmga at the east portal. <br />• Only the water from the west epivrg of the east portal was reaching the old State Highway 133. <br />• Several inches of water was standing in the western end of the sedimentation pond during this <br />inspection. <br />Bac)dlll and Credieo: <br />No visible slumping or settling was noted at the portal locations. <br />Bevrvetatlon• <br />• ~ Vegetation at the western end of the site below the road to the sedimentation pond v very dense. <br />'I}-is area needs only the removal of the existing ®lt fence and.mck bolts that at one time held the <br />straw bales in phtce. <br />• Some damage to the vegetalion adjacent to old State Highway 133 is being done by the stonige <br />of equipment and materials for West Elk by a drilling company out of Utah. Unless this damage <br />ie increased or contimrea through the Spring the vegetation in this area should recover. <br />Slides and Damage: <br />As stated in the last inspection report, correction of the elided above old State Highway 133 at the east <br />portal area needs to be scheduled whenever additional work ie planed. <br />
