MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-1998-014 PAGE: 2
INSPECTION DATE: 3-14-03 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ACS
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted as a follow-up to the 2-26-02 inspection
during which it was noted that an over burden stockpile had been placed
along the top of a cliff on an outside bend of the Eagle River. This
location was not approved in the mined land reclamation permit as a
stockpile location, and the Division of Minerals and Geology is
concerned that the cliff that forms the bank of the river is unstable.
In some locations, the toe of the stockpile is at the edge of the
cliff, but along most of the stockpile there is a gap of several feet
between the edge of the cliff and the toe of the stockpile.
Measurements at two locations, called the east profile and the west
profile, were collected using a one hundred foot tape, a brunton
compass, and an abney level. These measurements were supplemented by
consideration of information contained in the permit file and reference
to the USGS topographic map of this location to create the cross
sections illustrated on the following pages to be used for a stability
analysis of the cliff and the over burden stockpile.
cc: Carl Mount, DMG (via email)
Steve Shuey, DMG (via email)
I & E Contact Address
NAME Mr. Steve Wood
OPERATOR Lafarge West, Inc.
STREET P.O.
