RE: M84-044, San Isabel Pit
Please refer to your inspection report (or the San Isabel Pit dated 1/29/97. As noted under problems and corrective
actions was removal of asphalt materials noted in previous inspections. 1 am afraid 1 gave you some bad
iltforn+ation in that both coo and I though the material piled in the northeast portion of the area was the material
that had to be moved. My foreman tells me that the asphalt material we saw in the trench in the bottom of the pit
was the material that had to be removed. It was removed from the noted site and placed in the bottom of the pit for
burial. The pile you and I saw is waste material from hotplant operations and contains no large pieces of asphaltic
material.
I admitt I thought the referenced material was in the pile you and I looked at, although it was covered with sno+v
and +ce could not see the asphalt. At any rate the material memioned in pre+ious inspection reports has been
moved to the bottom of the pit for burial.
Sincerely,
\ -~
John T.
