(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1987-027
INSPECTION DATE 8/24/05 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS RCO
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was performed by the Division as part of its monitoring of Xpermits. The operator was contacted about the
inspection. The operator was not present during the inspection.
The required permit ID sign was posted near the locked gate along the access road at the west side of the property. There is a
fence enclosing the site, but it does not appear to be along the permit boundary; it is possibly along the property boundary.
The permit boundary is rectangular, and should be clearly marked by at least 4 corner markers. Only 2 markers that are
believed to be permit corners were observed (at the NW and SW corners). Due to the lacking permit boundary markers, there
:.. ..LI~~ ..4.J :~ LL: - -L L ~~ .- J 1~~..... ii TL ~:.. ~:~~ :~. .-.L-1.. 1
Please see the last oage of this report.
Mining disturbance has extended in several areas to the fencelines, which possibly exceeds the permit boundary. Verifying
locations of current mining disturbance by checking the annual report maps in the file is difficult, since no maps have been
report.
It appears that mining-related disturbance has possibly exceeded the permit boundary, but thatcannot be positively determined
due to lack ofvisibly-marked permit boundaries and the out-of-date maps. However, since this inspector feels that there is a
The old topsoil stockpile was seen along the west edge of the existing pit. It was low and stable in configuration, contained a
good amount of grass cover for erosion protection, and exhibited no erosion. There was also a long, recently-placed berm of
topsoil just inside the north fenceline. This berm was fairly new and did not appear to be carefully placed. Its side slopes were
steep (angle of repose) and were eroding. It was covered in annual weeds. The toe of the north side of the pile was on the
fenceline, which would result in soil beyond the fence if erosion accelerated. Since the operator is not protecting topsoil as
No further items were observed during the inspection. Responses to this inspection report should be directed to the Division of
Minerals and Geology, 701 Camino del Rio, Room 125, Durango, Colorado 81301, Attn: Bob Oswald; phone no. 970-247-5193.
10/31/05). Please see the last oage of this report. (The operator is aware that if mining-related disturbance to areas outside
the permit boundary is found, it may be a possible violation. The extent and types of all offsite disturbance must be accurately
and fully shown on the map.)
The bond is due to be reviewed soon. However no figures will be generated until the operator has provided the updated maps
so that this office knows the extent and degree of disturbance to bond for. Any required bond increase must be submitted
within 60 days of the mailing of the notice.
