111. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the
inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
A complete inspection of the Red Canyon Mine was performed by
Christine Johnston of the Division. Mitch Rollings of the Office
of Surface Mining (OSM) accompanied me during the inspection. The
day of the inspection was partly cloudy and unseasonably warm.
There was about 1-2 inches of snow on the ground.
Availability of Records
The records for the mine were reviewed at the Delta County
Courthouse in Delta. Please see the enclosed form entitled "DMG
Availability of Records" for comments on all records reviewed. The
1994 Annual hydrology Report should be included with the public
records. Minor Revision No. 2 should also be on file.
Excess Spoil and Development Waste
The clean water diversion ditch for the underground development
waste pile has been constructed. It was seeded, mulched, and
netting installed. It appears to be constructed as designed.
Measurements were not taken due to the snow cover in the ditch, but
will be once conditions improve. The ditch drains to natural
drainages on the north and south end of the pile.
CEJ/034.O130ine
