III. C-OMMENTS - COMPLIANCE
neiow are conments on the inspection. The comments inrlude discussion of observations
made during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during
the inspection and the facts or evie~nce supporting the enforcement ac[ion.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division of
Minerals and Geology. This former underground mine was reclaimed and reseeded in
199h and early 1997. The weather was warm with intense thundershowers occur•rirrg
during and after the inspection. Ground conditions were variable due to the rain.
Kevegetation
The vegetation on the main facility area is doing very well as compared to the
previous two growing seasons. Adequate moisture is implied by the appearance of
the grasses and for~bs at the site. Many species are seeded out on reclaimed
areas. Sunflowers observed along the edge of the reclamation and access road are
indicators of excellent summer moisture. A streamflaw hydrograph from the USGS
site including August 5`" on the Purgatoire River below the Golden Eagle mine is
shown below. No sign of trespass grazing was noted on the main facility reclaimed
area.
~` t~
U808 07124Y00 PURQRTOIRE RIVER RT MADRID, CD.
200 -- --- - ~ - - ~--- - - -
,~ loo
~ ., G S e a
~ G 6
~~~\~
nK a5 m~+r ~>6 q,h o~ pug ae a+t us Iluf 1o q„` 11 mu< 12
OHTES: 08/05/2043 to 08/12I2!M13 07:25
rKP1.f8Y1TION
- mscwlala
.- ntu[mN nnur ~nulnMlnu rresru nN ~1 r[uu~, uF vu,n~p
Provi~larrl Drtrr SubJKt to Rwlrlon
The inspection was limited due to prolonged cloud-to-ground lightening.
