The North of Douglas Pass Site is a 110 c material borrow pit along Highway 139. Material is pulled from the site
from time to time to augment road repairs along the Douglas Pass Corridor. The operator is the Colorado Department of
Transportation. The operator was not contacted as the inspection was a matter of convenience for the inspector while
investigating a report of illegal activity at a near by site.
The mine identification sign and affected area boundary markers are in place and incompliance with Rule 3.1.12. The sign is
posted on the entry gate and in good repair. Boundary markers consisting of t-post and grade stakes were noted along the
north and west edges. The rest of the disturbed area is otherwise well defined and appears to be well within the limits of the
permit boundaries.
Material has been pushed from the ridge top over the highwall to a loading point at the base. The highwall appears to be 30 to
40 feet high. No sloughing or major erosion was noted. The highwall and loose material appear to be stable at this time.
As work progresses the height of the highwall will be further reduced and actually making it more stable.
No significant infestations of noxious or other problematic weeds were noted on site during this inspection. The site is also
clean of debris and trash. There was no evidence of fuel storage or other hazardous materials /waste on site.
There is some topsoil /overburden stockpiled on site. The amount is minimal, howeverthe natural deposition of topsoil in the
surrounding area appears to be very thin as well. It appears as if the operator has saved what was available for future
reclamation.
The inspector did note that the switchback dozer road that provides access to the top of the ridge has a turn that appears to be
just outside of the boundary limit on the north. The area is maybe 10 to 20 feet long and 12 feet wide. This issue is not being
listed as a problem. however CDOT should verify if the road curve is out of the boundary and correct it if necessary.
No reclamation appears to have been undertaken at this time due to work space confinement.
No other issues or problems were noted at this time.
Photos enclosed are views from the south facing north. Photo # 1 shows material pushed down to loading zone. Photo #2
shows the main entrance gate.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Russ Means at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand Junction
Field Office, 101 South 3'" Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone no. 970-241-1117.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Rex Goodrich
OPERATOR CO.
