<br />In accordance with Rule 5.02,2(8) of the Regula-
<br />tions of Colorado Mined Lantl Reclamation Boartl
<br />far Coal Mining the Cotoratlo Division of Minerals
<br />antl Geology (Division) proposes to approve a Re-
<br />duction In the Inspection Frequenty (RIF) for the
<br />Sunlight Mine (Permit Number C4981-046), an
<br />undergrountl coal mine. The Division proposes to
<br />retluce the inspection frequency m one complete
<br />inspection antl three partial inspections per ~ar,
<br />commencing tlurin9 the 2003 - 2004 Stale Iscai
<br />year, This RIF Is basetl on tindinys that the mina
<br />site has been sWbilizetl and reclaimed and al this
<br />tune the potential for adverse effects upon the pub-
<br />lic or the environment has been minimizetl to the
<br />extent possible.
<br />Tha Sunlight Mine is located in Gadieltl County,
<br />Approximately S miles south antl west of Glen-
<br />wood Springs, 0,5 mile before reaching the Sun-
<br />light Ski Area, streddling Gadieltl County Roatl
<br />11]. The site is Iwated in portions of Sechons 29,
<br />33 antl 34, Township ]South, Range 89 West.
<br />This region is depicted on the Cattle Creek, Colo-
<br />rado USGS ].5-minute quadrangle topographic
<br />map. Tha surtace aM mineral tights are privately
<br />awned.
<br />Colorado Fuel 8 Iron (CF&I) developetl the Sun-
<br />lignt Mine prior to 1910. There have been numer-
<br />ous owner-operators over the years, the Iasi being
<br />Iha Gartietd Energy CorPOmNon. The GertieN Em
<br />ergy Corporation obtained a permit from the Mlnetl
<br />Lantl Reclamation Board on October 23, 1982.
<br />The permit area encompasses roughly 180 acres,
<br />where 524 acres o1 surface were tlisturyed anL
<br />].31 acres were effedetl (sutlace tlisturnance plus
<br />under-mined areas}.
