(Page 2) MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-1995-027 INSPECTION DATE: Aaril 19. 2001 OBSERVATIONS INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: AIW This was a normal monitoring inspection conducted by Tony Waldron of DMG along with Robert Vance of Park County Road and Bridge. The Ansley No. 2 Pit is located approximately 3 miles southeast of Fairplay, Colorado and adjacent to and just northeast of Highway 9. The area is typical of the South Park high valley grasslands formed over glacial or alluvial outwash gravels. The operator has clearly marked the permit area and there was a mine identification sign present at the entrance to the site. The pit has been mined to a depth of approximately 10 feet more or less. One small (< 1 acre) had been mined to a depth greater than ten feet and had intercepted the groundwater table as a result. The operator was in the process of filling in this area to prevent groundwater exposure. Approximately %: of the pit has been mined to this point and no final reclamation has occurred. However, the slopes in the mined area are being maintained at approximately 3H:1 V as mining is occurring, thereby, preventing the need to conduct extensive backfilling once mining is completed. Topsoil was salvaged around the southern end of the pit but had not yet been salvaged under some of the product stockpiles. When these stockpiles are relocated into the re-graded pit bottom, the operator needs to salvage all available topsoil for use in reclaiming the site. Since the approved mining plan did not call for exposing groundwater during mining operations, the fact that groundwater is presently exposed is being cited as a problem on page three of this report along with appropriate corrective actions.
