MINE LOCATION: North of Willox Lane, about 1/4 mile east of Shields, north of
Fort Collins, Lorimer County.
SURFACE DISTURBANCE INFORMATION:
1. TYPE OF MINE:
Open pit.
2. MATERIAL MINED: Sand and gravel.
3. ESTIMATED TOTAL NUMBER OF ACRES DISTURBED: Approximately 10 acres.
4. MINE, MILL, EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTION: Scale house, crusher, and
dewatering facilities. Large gravel stockpiles on site. Open pit with
water. Large topsoil or overburden piles exist. Operation 15-20 from
adjacent irrigation ditch canal. Dewatering into adjacent ditch.
5. ACCESS DESCRIPTION: Enter on improved gravel haul road from
Willox Lane.
6. TOPSOIL STATUS: Some topsoil may have been salvaged.
Possible topsoil piles to the south and west of the pit.
7. VEGETATION STATUS:
Depleted in mine area.
8. SITE STABILITY: Pit slopes are steep and some erosion
and mass movement is occurring.
9. ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARD(S): Many pit slopes are near vertical, bordering
submerged drop-offs. No complete fences exist around the entire site.
