General Comments
Mr. Bob Kuretich, who owns an orchard immediately to the east of the
Terror Creek Facility was contacted during the inspection. Although Mr.
Kuretich had not filed a citizen's complaint, he had previously requested
that the Division observe the effect of coal dust on his apples and pears.
At the time of the inspection, there was very little wind and no blowing
dust. However, it was evident that coal dust in the heavily traveled
portions of the yard would be susceptible to blowing. Several inches of
coal dust, pulverized to a fine powder by traffic, cover the area
adjacent to the stockpiles. At the beginning of the inspection, dust was
being raised by equipment but due to the lack of wind it was settling
fairly rapidly and not being transported off site. The yard was watered
down during the inspection.
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203 Tel. (303) 866-3567
