(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-2002-114
INSPECTION DATE: 11-13-06
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS GRM
This inspection was conducted as part ofthe normal program established by the Colorado Division ofReclarnation,
Mining and Safety for amendments to permitted sites. The 15 Road Pit is located west of Fruita, Colorado between
Highway 6 and Interstate 70 off of 15 Road. United /Old Castle has submitted an amendment to add in an
additional 41 acres of land along the southwest boundary of the current area. Brent Kerr, representative for United /
Old Castle accompanied the inspector on site.
The required notice under Rule 1.6.2(1)(b) was posted on the gate at the entrance to the site off Highway 6.
The land is primarily a Colorado River terrace. The over story vegetation consist primarily of undesirable species
such as tamarisk and Russian olive. Some desirable young narrow leafcottonwoods are note along the shores ofthe
existing lake shore as well. The under story is primarily native grasses, with some service berry shrubs. Cattails and
willows were noted in the lake as well as canary reed grass.
The operator is working with the Corp of Engineers on wetlands issues. Currently it appears that there is
approximately 4.5 acres of wetlands on site. Reclamation plans do call for establishing wetlands shelves along new
lake shorelines.
A major return ditch for irrigation intersects the northwest portion of the proposed excavation area. The operator
has an agreement to relocate the ditch out of the excavation area to the north. All utilities appear to be represented
on the map provided.
To the north of the proposed pit is primarily an industrial area under development. Currently farm equipment, a
camper and other mobile materials are noted in this area but no permanent structures. On a parcel owned by Public
Service a brick pump house and 6 foot chain link fence is noted. This is not represented on Map C-1 and should be.
This issue will be noted in the Preliminary Adequacy Review for correction with other issues.
No disturbance is noted within the proposed area although it is highly likely that the existing lake is apre-law gravel
or borrow pit.
Any issues will be addressed in the forth coming Preliminary Adequacy Review.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Russ Means at the Division of Reclamation, Mining and
Safety, Grand Junction Field Office, 101 South 3`a Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone no.
970-241-1117.
I & E Contact Address cc:
X CE: Greg Lewicki
NAME: Brent Kerr ^ BL
OPERATOR: United/ Old Castle ^ FS
STREET: P.O.
