The Citiz7an's Complaint was received
by OSM on Juae 26, 1997 and forwarded to DMG on July 23, 1997 in the form of TDN !k X-97-
140-370-001 TV 1. DMG submitted a written nasponse to OSM on the TDN on August 5,1997.
This field investigation allowed oa-the-ground follow-up of a few of the iseaes addressed within
the TDN response.
Participating in the inspection were the following persons: Snsen McCarron and Jim Pendleton
of DMG, Mitchell Rolbrt®s, Mike Rosenthal, sad Gene Hay of GSM, Larry Martz, landowner
and eamphmuvrt, and Phl1 Schmidt and Nonn Every of MCC.
The inspection commenced at 8 a.m. at the of&cee of MCC. Maps, photos and other
docamerrtation concerning subsidence relating to the Manz hunting cabin and the landslide upon
Mottles Rock were examined. MCC provided additional backgroand, explanation and copies as
requested.
'[he inspection moved to the Manz' properly at which point Mr. Larry Manz joined the group.
The Mauz hunting cabin was aocesaed via the Lone Pine Gulch road. The rebus was carefully
examined ,both inside and off.
At the time that the group was on-site st the Maniz cabin Mr. Martz indicated that he had an
addi6onel complaint concerning a restriction in flow from the water line which supplies domestic
water to the cabin. The OSM repaeserttelive indicated that since this was a compleirrt which had
not been previously daected to DMG, they would defer handling of the complaint to the DMG. 1
presumed that Mr. Mentz would follow through with a written citizen complaint and therefore
included the issue of the water line in my portion of the inspection, ae follows.
Domestic water is supplied to the cabrtr through a cis6srn and gravity fed water system which is
installed on the site. The cistern is Shed periodically by Mentz by haulage of water to the site.
Water from the cistern is supplied to the cabin through a 2 inch rigid PVC pipe which is buried
between the cistern and the cabin. The water line enters the back of the cabin near the kitchen.
The area where the water line ie buried is discernable due to the obvious dienrption in vegetative
growth in a narrow coaidor between cabin and the cistern. Tha cistern is located topogaphically
above the cabin to the south and water feeds by gravity to the supply lines within the kitchen and
bathroom. Martz indicated that the weber flow at the pond of the showerhead in the bathroom
was insatticie~. He also indicated that he had conducted some praluniaary investigation into the
problem and had determined that the water supply line was not broken.
