The pit was permitted in 1996 however, it appears that this
area has been mined before, probably by the landowner. The identification sign was properly
posted at the mine entrance and the affected area boundaries were delineated by metal t-posts
located at each corner. The pit has been active recently and the operator did salvage the
available topsoil. The salvaged topsoil should be placed in one or two locations, shaped
into stable piles and seeded with a temporary seed mix to protect it from wind and water
erosion. Clearly delineating topsoil stockpiles also prevents this material from being
wasted or used inappropriately for road construction.
This concluded the inspection and no problems were cited.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Randy Rencuist
OPERATOR Sedgwick County
STREET 223 S.
