III. COMMENTS - COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations
made during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during
the inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a complete inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division
of Minerals and Geology. This former underground mine was reclaimed and reseeded
in 1996 and early 1997. The mine has achieved a Phase II bond release for the
majority of the disturbed area. The ground was dry and the weather was cool and
mild.
Availability of Records
The public copy of the mine records is now kept at the Tri-State Railyard office
located south of Highway 12 on the west side of Trinidad. All records were found
current and as required on page 2a of this report.
Signs and Markers
The operator has updated the entry sign as required by Rules 4.02 and 4.30.2. The
sign is located along the access road south of the river and north of the railroad
crossing.
Revegetation
The growing season has ended at this site. Litter cover is good and underlying
grasses were noted and appear dormant. Weed control at this site over the last
few seasons appears to have reduced the occurrence of Scotch thistle and Canada
thistle. Vegetation at the Apache vent shafts is good to excellent. The MW-1
vent fan site will be re-seeded due to poor moisture conditions following the
initial seeding effort.
Overall, the site appeared in good condition for the fall season.
3
