<br />Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during the <br />inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or <br />evidence supporting the enforcement action. <br />This partial inspection of the King Coal Mine was conducted by DMG staff from the <br />Durango Office, 701 Camino Del Rio, Room 125, Durango, CO 81301, phone (970) <br />247-5469. Operations were active during the time of this inspection. Tom Bird or <br />Trent Peterson was not available to accompany the DMG inspector. <br />Mine identification sign and safety signs were posted at the mine entrance. Permit <br />boundary markers were observed. Entrance gate was open. Drainage conveyance <br />swale was intact for the entrance/haul road. Highway haul trucks and private pick-up <br />trucks were being loaded. <br />Large sediment pond was holding water approximately 3.5' depth, water level was <br />visually estimated at 4' below the weep holes for the primary spillway inlet riser. <br />Primary and secondary spillways appeared stable and clear of debris, debris screen was <br />intact for the primary spillway, no discharge noted. Pond embankment appeared <br />stable. Overflow pipe to small sediment pond appeared intact, brush guard was intact, <br />no flow noted. <br />Small sediment pond was holding water, approximately 0.5' depth, no discharge noted. <br />Primary and secondary spillways appeared stable and clear of debris. Embankment <br />appeared stable. <br />Site appeared stable, no evidence of affected area drainage departing the site. <br />
