~i
(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-1978-096
INSPECTION DATE: 11/15/01
OBSERVATIONS

INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: AIW
This was a normal monitoring inspection conducted by Tony Waldron of DMG along with Kenneth Klco representing Fremont
County. The site is located approximately 1.75 miles southwest of Coaldale, Colorado. The pit is situated on an alluvial fan
that drops out of the mountains just north of the Arkansas Rlver.
There was an identification sign posted at the mine entrance and the permit area boundaries were clearly marked. The fan
slopes from north to south and he pit has been mined in a u-shaped configuration with the south end being almost level with
the fan and the north end consisting of aback-sloped cut approximately 20 feet high. The side-slopes are therefore deeper on
the north end of the pit and taper down to the point they are level at the south end of the pit. All of the cuts have been back-
filled to approximately 3H:1 V slopes. Very little topsoil appears to have been salvaged and stockpiled to this point and no
final reclamation has been completed to date.
In reviewing the records for this pit, it was noted that the permit was originally issued fora 5 acre disturbance, however, the
present permit boundary incorporates a area larger than 5 acres. The operator was under the impression that their permit was
a normal 110 covering 9.99 acres, however, the annual report shows approximately 7 acres in the DMG permit boundary. In
any event, there is a discrepancy between the amount listed in the permit and the area that is being represented in the annual
report and marked on the ground. As a result, this is being cited as a problem on page three of this report along with
appropriate corrective actions.
The footprint of the pit appeared to be approximately 5-7 acres in size. The deposit has not been completely mined out but
will require the pit to be deepened to obtain additional material unless the operator amends the present 110 or converts the
site into a 112. This is not likely to happen since the material at this site is not a desirable product for road surfacing.
However, the county does want to maintain the permit since the material can be used for till and bedding material and the
remaining reserve is more than adequate to supply these needs.
CERTIFlED MAIL N0.1r.~C I lob , oco~j 4114 Zed 83
RETURN RECEIPT REpUESTED
& E Contact Address
NAME: Paul Garrett
OPERATOR: Fremont County
STREET: 615 Macon Ave. Rm 102
CITYISTATEIZIP: Canon Citv CO 81212
cc: Jim Stevens-DMG
^ CE
^ BL
^ FS
^ HW
^ HMWMD (CH)
^ SE
^ WQCD (CH)
^ OTHER
