III. COMMENTS - COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments inclutle discussion of
observations made during the inspection. Comments also describe any
enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or evidence
supporting the enforcement action.
This was a complete inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado
Division ofi Minerals and Geology. At this time, the operation has yet
to commence coal mining activities.
Sians and Markers
The main sign at the mine entrance from Highway 12 was straightened and
re-attached to the support poles. It was fiound in compliance with
Rules 4.02 and 4.30.2.
Hvdroloaic Balance
The fiollowing hydrologic observations were noted during the inspection:
Alamosa Canyon was flowing at an estimated 30-40 gallons per minute.
The flow was clear and cool. Lorencito Canyon was flowing along most
of its length, also clear. Gravel operations on-site fior gas roads in
lower Lorencito Canyon has resulted in a number ofi small ponds in this
area. Flow in the adjacent Purgatoire River was qualitatively
estimated as low, with very little snowmelt effect apparent in this
river system. Weeds were mechanically removed at ground water
monitoring site MW-5.
As noted in previous inspections, gas development continues on the
property. No coal mining activity was noted.
Page 3
