Grass that was seeded over the waste rock is almost a total failure, showing establishment almost
exclusively in the small areas of soil where the trees and shrubs were planted.
The small cave in behind the backfilled 97001evel portal, which was reported in the 9/29/95 inspection report, has been backtilled
with native rock and appears very stable and natural looking. ,
The storage building, previously on blocks at the 97001evel, has been removed.
93601evel -Homestake had transported topsoil from a borrow area, located above the lower tailings pond access road, to several
areas on the 93601evel bench in an effort to enhance revegetation on several bare spots. This task appears to have been successful
for the most part and is showing signs of successful vegetation establishment.
The Windy Gulch culvert and riprap channel were clear of debris and appeared to be stable.
The portal area was dry, but evidence of mine drainage was observed in iron staining around the portal backfill.
The hill slpoe behind the office has been regraded to blend more with the natural surroundings. This regraded area will need
revegetating.
Canada thistle is becomming a significant problen across the 6390 bench area. The operator will need to perform weed control for
this and any other species of noxious weed in this area as well as other areas of the mine site.
Upper tailings pond -The excess material comprising the upper tailings dam, above the tailings level, was regraded out onto the
tailings to cover the tailings with inert material that might prove more successful in establishing vegetative cover on the tailings.
The area covered by the effort encompasses an approximate 50 foot wide band along the inside perimeter of the dam. The crest
of the dam remains approximately 5 feet above the tailings elevation. This regraded area still requires revegetation.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Alan Cox
OPERATOR Homestake Mining Company
STREET 650 California Street
CITY/STATE/ZIP San Francisco, California 94108
cc: Tom Gillis, DMG
^ CE
^ BL
^ FS
^ HW
^ HMWMD ICHI
^ SE
^ WOCD (CH1
^ OTHER
